St. Charles Historic District
About 45 minutes south: a walkable riverfront, brick streets, history, and ice cream.
Historic Main Street
St. Charles has a beautifully preserved historic Main Street along the Missouri River—cobblestone-feel brick streets, shops, candy stores, and casual restaurants. Easy, shaded, stroller-friendly walking; a nice low-key outing for mixed ages.
- Lewis & Clark Boat House & Nature Center — riverfront museum about the famous expedition that launched from here; replica boats kids can see up close.
- First Missouri State Capitol — the state’s original capitol building, restored and tourable.
- Frontier Park — green space along the river, good for a picnic and a run-around.
- The Foundry Art Centre — art studios and exhibits if anyone wants a creative stop.
