Day Trips
When you want a break from camp—or a rainy-day backup—these are close and family-friendly.

From the Park
| Destination | Drive | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Troy & Lincoln County | ~15 min | Lunch out, restock, museum, splash park |
| Winfield — Mississippi River | ~25–30 min | Lock & Dam 25, barges, eagles, river views |
| St. Charles Historic District | ~45 min | Riverfront, history, ice cream, easy walking |
| Meramec Caverns | ~1½–2 hr | 🦇 Our scheduled cave day — guided cave tour + pizza out (great rainy day) |
| St. Louis | ~1–1.25 hr | Free Zoo, Arch, Science Center, Magic House |
How to Day-Trip Without Losing the Camp Vibe
- Keep it a half-day when you can—mornings out, back for dinner and the fire.
- Coordinate cars: not everyone has to go; split into “adventurers” and “camp crew.”
- Rainy-day pivot: Meramec Caverns, St. Louis museums, and the St. Charles shops are great when a storm parks over the campground.
- Combine errands: a Troy run can grab ice, groceries, and a pharmacy stop while you’re out.
Best single rainy-day plan: drive to Meramec Caverns (cool, dry, and genuinely fun for kids)—it’s already our scheduled cave day, so it doubles as the storm backup.
