Troy & Lincoln County

The closest town (~15 min)—your hub for food, ice, supplies, and a couple of local stops.

The Practical Stuff

Troy is our resupply and backup base, about 10–15 minutes from the park:

  • Groceries & Walmart — ice refills, fresh meat/produce, anything forgotten, and Missouri fishing permits.
  • Gas — last easy fuel before the park.
  • Pharmacy & Mercy Hospital Lincoln — good to know where these are with kids along.
  • Restaurants — a nice “night off” for the cooks (the Older Smiths flagged a pizza night out—Troy has options).

Things to Do in Troy

  • Lincoln County Historical Museum — small-town history, artifacts, and exhibits; a quick, cheap, air-conditioned stop.
  • Woods’ Fort site — a small park on the site of a War of 1812 stockade, with reassembled log cabins and a memorial marker.
  • City parks — Troy’s community parks have playgrounds, ball fields, pavilions, and a pond with ducks—a good leg-stretch and energy-burner for the kids.
  • Farmers market / seasonal events — check dates; summer often has a market or fair.

Make It Easy

  • Pair a Troy trip with the mid-week grocery/ice refill so it does double duty.
  • Hit a playground + lunch out to reset cranky kids, then back to camp for the fire.
  • Verify hours before you go—small-town spots keep limited summer hours.
